– Still Life Photography
This portfolio is the culmination of a research cluster on photographic trends.
We were required to select a genre of photography and research historical trends. This then informed the development of our own trend forecast and the production of a collection of images.
I’ve always had a soft spot for still life and was excited to discover that still life photography developed hand in hand with photographic technology. I noted in my research that still life imaging trends from each decade seemed to mirror commercial and societal trends and imaging technology advances. This in turn provided fine artists with rich fodder to copy or diverge from, in order to comment on society generally.
I decided to comment on the rise of digital image manipulation by combining a physically manipulated still life process with studio strobe lighting technologies to create images that look like they were made with digital manipulation.
I selected colour schemes based on interior colour forecasts and, noting a decidedly eighties vibe, my images have been titled with popular names for girls from the same era.
